OUR STUDENTS

100% of Horizons San Diego students qualify for free or reduced price lunch.

2/3 of Horizons San Diego students are performing below grade level in reading and math.

Across our country, students from under-resourced communities face inequities in access to technology, cultural and educational enrichment, the arts, and more. These barriers to access result in gaps in academic and social-emotional skills, creativity, and health that have a profound impact on student achievement, engagement, and individual life success.

Horizons students are selected in collaboration with our partner public schools Nye Elementary and Valencia Park Elementary based on criteria established by Horizons National. We seek to expand our partnerships with additional San Diego public schools in the coming years.

Formed in the summer of 2021 at Francis Parker School, Horizons San Diego is in its fifth summer of operation and will be fully enrolled with 135 students in the summer of 2029.

This summer we will serve:

  • 75 public school students in grade K-5

  • Students who currently attend a Title 1 public school in San Diego

  • 2/3 of students performing below grade level in reading and math

  • Academic Program

Summer can inadvertently widen the educational gap. We know the importance of learning outside the classroom. That's why Horizons students are exposed to a wide variety of enrichment opportunities that build upon the knowledge they're gaining and introduce them to new experiences.

  • Enrichment

Students spend at least 3+ hours each day on reading, writing, math, and science instruction led by experienced school teachers. A 5-to-1 student-teacher ratio and reading intervention specialists ensure every student receives individualized support and attention.

Horizons students learn by doing.
